I decided to try out the Skims body tape recently and I wanted to share my experience with you!
My Initial Thoughts
For reference, I am a D cup and ALWAYS have to wear a bra with everything. Therefore, I tend to stay away from most items of clothing that do not allow me to wear a bra UNLESS I am absolutely in LOVE with the item and must figure out a way to wear it.
I have tried other types of body tape before to which nothing worked. I have even tried sticky bras and every other kind of bra that is marketed as the perfect bra for a no-back dress. All of them failed horribly!
Part of me had high hopes for the Skims Body Tape and I know Kim Kardashian has used body tape for years! The other part of me figured it just was not going to work but I bought it anyways.
Where to Buy
I bought my Skims Body Tape at Nordstrom online only because I buy everything there and they ship super fast. The Skims website also sells it. Unfortunately, both websites are currently sold out!
My Skims Body Tape Experience
I bought the Skims body tape because I had a wedding to go to in which I bought a dress that had a see through back. I know I know, why did I buy a dress I knew I could not wear a bra?!! I just had to have this dress though and part of me thought maybe I could get away with no bra since the top of the dress had boning in it. I think I could have gotten away with no bra if I absolutely had to, only because this particular dress had boning in it which was helpful for us ladies with larger chests.
The wedding was on a Saturday and it just happened to be 80 degrees out that day. I started getting ready well in advance because I figured I would struggle with the tape since it was my first time using it and wanted to make sure I had ample amounts of time. There was no struggle at all with the tape! The tape will get stuck to itself if you are not careful when pealing it but that is all tape.
Putting on the body tape
The tape comes on a typical roll as do all other tapes. It has a paper backing that when pealed off, reveals the sticky side. I cut pieces of tape which I thought would be long enough. I stuck the tape on, starting from underneath my “girls” and pulling up toward my shoulders as I placed the tape on. I wanted them to look as they do as if I was wearing a bra. I used 3 pieces of tape on each side. I did not put the tape over my shoulders since my dress had a sheer back but otherwise, I think putting it over your should is a great idea. I was locked and loaded and ready to go.
Wearing the Tape
I had the tape on starting at noon. It was hot. It was 80 and humid hot. My dress was black and floor length. I was sweating. We arrived at the wedding at 2:30. The wedding was outside and absolutely gorgeous. It was a beautiful day for a wedding.
I was sweating until the sun went down at around 6:00. I thought for sure the tape was going to come loose at this point but to my surprise, it did not! I was dancing all night and I thought again, okay it is definitely going to come loose now. Nope, the tape did not come loose.
I had the tape on for a good 12 hours throughout the heat, sweating, and dancing. The tape did not move at all. It stayed sticky, it stayed in place, and it held up the girls.
Removal of the Tape
Once I was home, I figured the tape would be easy to remove since it had been on for so long. Boy was I wrong. The tape was just as sticky as the moment I put it on. I could not get the tape off! It was painful to remove and actually took some of my skin off in the process. What I was not aware of (since I did not read the instructions) was to remove the tape, use water. I learned the use water tactic after the tape was already off. I learned the hard way!
I highly suggest reading the instructions before and after application as well as for removal.
My Overall Thoughts
I would 100% use this tape again as well as buy it again once it is back in stock. I am not low or empty on tape but I think it is that good. I feel as if I have finally found something that will allow me to wear things that I typically thought I could not!
Tips for Use
I wanted to share a few tips that worked for me and I hope they will help you too –
- Wear pasties – Skims has their own pasties but I just used ones from Target
- Do not use lotion on the area where you will be applying the tape. From previous experience using other sticky tape and sticky bras, lotion makes these types of products not stick as well.
